LGBTI Support/Awareness

 

The LGBTI is a newly forming group (September 2011) dedicated to creating more awareness, support and ensuring equal right's for all people.  Currently we are are actively working towards increased education, support and awareness for transgender people.

Thank you for your interest in the LGBTI Committee at UCG.  Below is a summary of the goals we discussed at our last meeting as well as a members list and some information sources.  

The Committee’s current goals are the following (with the lead person in brackets):


Certification:
  Complete the Welcoming Congregations certification,which includes sessions on bisexuality, transgender identity, and race, andthen start working towards the Living the Welcoming Congregation certification.[Matt]


Community Training:  Learn about the OWL program and determine howit can be brought into the community [Mel]


Raising Awareness:  Ensure we are using appropriate and welcominggender terminology throughout our community, especially with our young people[Jane]


Sunday Service:  Take the lead on a Sunday Service, probably with a trans focus [Matt]


Creating Connections:  Reach out to other LGBTI groups within the greater Guelph community and see what kind of alliances we can make as well as what activities/causes we can partner on and support,  such as Pride [Laura]
